How My Creative Journey Began (and Where It’s Heading Again)
Share
When I first started my businesses 20 years ago, I made Tatty Tiaras and Wedding favours for the Gothic and alternative community. Denim and scrap leather worked really well.
I loved it .
I could work from home, and I was always there for the children when they got home from school.
I no longer worked as a landlady, yep, I used to run pubs, but it was a strange occupation for someone as antisocial as me. I excelled at it. I worked in pubs from Cheshire all the way over to South Wales.
When my youngest was 1, I made the decision to leave that industry.
But I digress: tatty tiaras came about because I had a wire with a patina. I made a tiara anyway as a tester and I sold it.
I was shocked but elated at the same time. I used to sew my own favourite bags and then handbags. Anything really. Hair bows and Scrunchies, hand-sewing flowers and brooches.
Now making candles and skulls are how you all know me, but last month I got a new industrial sewing machine. I finally set it up yesterday and I have both recycled and new denim and faux leather. I’m really looking forward to some sewing again.
I guess what I’m saying in a long way is find the time to do something you love, and you’ll never feel like you live to work.
My happy place is and always will be making something with my hands. Not always perfect, but made with love.
