How to Look After Candles in Hot Weather: Summer Candle Care Tips

Candles add a beautiful, cosy touch to any space—but when the temperatures rise, your favourite wax creations can become surprisingly fragile. Whether you are storing a collection, or enjoying them around your home, it's important to know how to care for candles during hot weather.
🕯️ Candle Care Tips for Hot Weather
1. Keep Candles Cool & Shaded
Store candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or heat sources (like windowsills or cars). Heat can cause candles to melt, warp, or sweat.
2. Avoid Storing in Cars
Cars heat up quickly—even in mild weather. Avoid leaving candles in your vehicle, as they can melt or lose shape.
3. Watch for "Sweating"
Soy and natural waxes may "sweat" (release oils) in high temperatures. Blot gently with a paper towel—the candle is still safe to use!
4. Use a Lid or Cover
Keep your candles covered when not in use. This helps protect them from dust, heat, and direct sunlight, especially in warm environments.
5. Refrigerate (Briefly) If Needed
If a candle becomes too soft, chill it in the fridge for 15–30 minutes to firm it up before burning—just don't freeze it!
6. Keep Wicks Trimmed
A trimmed wick (1/4") reduces excess heat when burning and keeps the flame steady, which is helpful in warmer rooms.
7. Burn with Care in Warm Rooms
In hotter environments, candles may burn faster. Keep burn sessions to 2–3 hours max, and always monitor the melt pool.
8. Avoid Drastic Temperature Changes
Sudden shifts (e.g., from hot to cold) can cause cracks or frosting on natural wax candles. Let candles adjust to room temperature slowly.
