About
The Story Behind Mr Wendles
Mr Wendles started with a love of making things by hand and a complete lack of interest in making ordinary things.
About 20 years ago, I started making Tatty Tiaras and wedding favours for the Gothic and alternative community. Denim and scrap leather worked surprisingly well.
I loved it. I could work from home, be there when the children came home from school, and make things with my hands.
Tatty Tiaras actually started because I had a piece of wire with a patina on it. I made a tiara anyway, just to see what happened.
Someone bought it.
I was shocked, and absolutely bloody delighted.
And really, that's where the Mr Wendles story begins.
And Then I Started Making...
I used to sew my own favourite bags, then handbags, hair bows and scrunchies. I made flowers by hand, brooches, basically anything I fancied having a go at.
These days, you're more likely to know me for my candles, skulls and wax melts.
But last month I bought a new industrial sewing machine. I finally got it set up yesterday, and I've got recycled and new denim and faux leather waiting for me.
I'm really looking forward to some sewing again.
I suppose I've come full circle.
What Mr Wendles Is All About
These days, most of you know me for my candles, skulls and wax melts.
Everything is made in small batches in my studio, by me. No mass production, no faceless warehouse, just handmade things for people who like their stuff a little different.
I love making things that are a little unusual, a little quirky and occasionally a little bit dark.
Because life is far too short for boring homeware.
